Turmeric is widely regarded as a “magic” herb, if you will. It’s known to help fight off cancer cells and disease. The potency and efficacy of its healing compound, curcumin is of particular interest to science with its ability to actually kill off cancer cells. However, curcumin may have another, more mundane but yet still desirable ability. It can help you shed inches from your waist, and turn bad fat, good.
There are two types of fat: brown fat and white fat. Basically, brown fat burns energy to produce heat, while white fat stores energy as adipose tissue. Most of the fat found in overweight adults is white fat.
Curcumin is able to assist in white-fat loss in a few different ways. First, it actually helps to increase the expression of brown fat cell genes, and it stimulates the production of new mitochondria. Mitochondria are like little cellular energy-burning furnaces. It also helps to suppress the formation of new fat cells. So, it helps your body burn energy more efficiently and readily, while simultaneously inhibiting the growth of more body fat.
