Have you ever pondered the impact that your thoughts have on your physical well-being? In my younger years I went through some really dark times, mentally.
During this time, I was physically ill much of the time, I was too thin, and I was unhealthy. Granted, there were probably some other factors which played a part in my poor health, but since becoming a happier/healthier person, I can say that my mental state affected my body just as much as my unhealthy habits did.
This realization made me curious.
If I felt so horrible, physically, during such a bad emotional time, and I now feel so physically wonderful during such a wonderful time in my life, could the amount and type of mental energy that we focus on our physical health have an effect on the diseases that we will or will not contract in the future?
Dr. Larry Berkelhammer, a psychologist and blogger for PsychCentral thinks so. In his article titled “Are Your Thoughts Making You Sick?” he says, “The bottom line is that your health is not just dependent on your genes, your diet, how much you exercise, and whether you get enough sleep; it is also dependent upon your thought processes. People who are very judgmental, especially when they chronically keep putting themselves down, cannot escape a negative influence on their health.” Meaning, your health will mirror the negative thoughts that you’re having.
Similarly, positivity in your thoughts manifests good health in your body.
Dr. Berkelhammer published another article titled “Hope Helps Cure Cancer” where he says, “Many oncologists reported that the most healing attribute for a patient to have was the sense of hope. Hope serves to boost the immune system, which allows it to have a better chance of killing the cancer.”
In the documentary “What The Bleep Do We Know” a study was done on water crystals, and the affects that positive and negative thoughts have on their structure. “Dr. Masaru Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water reveal changes when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them.
He found that water from clear springs and water that has been exposed to loving words shows brilliant, complex, and colorful snowflake patterns. In contrast, polluted water, or water exposed to negative thoughts, forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colors.”
With our bodies being made up of mostly water, maybe we should be directing our focus to our mental well-being. It might just save our bodies, physically.
