Just one 25-minute walk a day can extend your life by seven years, claim scientists. It is never too late (or too early) to see improvements to your health through exercise. Experts say that even people in their late 70s can reap benefits of exercise. Gentle exercise, like walking, can reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack by half in someone who is in their 50s and 60s, says Sanjay Sharma, professor of cardiac diseases at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London.
Walking can be incorporated into your life in a number of ways. Sharma suggests relying on your feet instead of automobiles if you have time. “If you know that something is 20 minutes away, try and walk it if you’ve got time and not take the bus,” he said. “People with a heart condition shouldn’t run but walk to a point where they can still speak – but they shouldn’t be able to sing. Following these simple directions is essential considering our sedentary lifestyles.”
Certain types of exercise can also benefit us more than others. Additionally, exercise may be one of the best anti-aging programs that we can use. Perhaps instead of relying heavily on expensive anti-wrinkle creams, maybe simply incorporating more exercise into your life can keep you looking youthful. According to DailyMail.co.uk:
The authors found endurance exercise and high intensity exercise to be more efficient at achieving good health than just lifting weights, and is more likely to trigger the anti-ageing process.
Christi Deaton, professor at the Cambridge Institute of Public Health, said: ‘The more active you are, and it doesn’t matter when you start, the more benefit you are going to have.
We recommend people who have cardiovascular disease or had myocardial infarction or heart failure to be physically active, because it’s beneficial for them; so there’s really no reason for healthy people not to exercise as well.
Essentially, anyone at any age can benefit from exercise, even if they have never followed an exercise program before. And even if you are not a sporty individual, then just 25 minutes of gentle walking a day can have a significant and positive impact on your health and well being.(1)
